My Other Projects

As a writer, I am constantly brainstorming ideas for stories and projects beyond the Knight's Journey series. Many of these ideas are ones that I write down or store away in the back of my mind, knowing that I am unlikely to take them any further. But I am ambitious and optimistic and many of my other ideas and projects are things that I actually plan on working on. This page is about some of my other work (both planned and in-progress). Hopefully some of these ideas will generate interest and they can become published stories.

Short Story Cycle

One of my favorite side-projects is a short story cycle that I plan to lead into a novella or a novel. I plan on doing a series of related short stories and in my spare time I have been creating character profiles for these stories. I have been using this project as an exercise in creating characters with different and unique personalities.

Short Stories

I have a bunch of ideas for short stories, some of which I have begun working on, but all of which I have outlined to a basic degree. The short story that I am currently working on is one about a treasure hunter named Caius who has been sent into a set of ancient ruins. Caius enters the ruins and finds something much different than he expected, something that will change his entire life.

This short story, still in progress, has been an immensely fun project. It is difficult to condense so much into a short story, but it has been incredibly fun to build a new world. I strongly encourage every writer to try and write a short story for which an entire world has been built. Creating more than is able to fit in the story makes for a great exercise and a very realistic story.

Nano Projects

I have a few Nano projects that are either unfinished or waiting to be edited and rewritten. If you are unfamiliar with Nanowrimo, you should check it out. It is a great way to pump out a first draft of a story really quickly. I participated several times and one day I plan on going back and touching up the novels that I wrote for Nanowrimo.

Artwork

In addition to writing, I enjoy working on art projects as well. My most recent project was the creation of my world map, which took a significant amount of time and energy. Honestly, I do not even want to think about how many hours went into creating that thing. It turned out really well though, so I have no regrets.

I have also been very interested in doing canvas paintings. I recently did some cool paintings for the main houses of A Song of Ice and Fire. Those were really fun to create and I will try to upload pictures of them when possible. I am particularly proud of my Stark and Targaryen paintings. They were quite detailed and they turned out really well. In addtion to the canvas prints for Game of Thrones, I also did a great drawing of Jon Snow that was based on another piece of art that I saw. I actually got George R.R. Martin to sign that piece of art, which was super cool.

Boardgames

I am an avid board game enthusiast. I love to play in-depth board games and one of my current projects is to create a board game. The basic premise is simple, an office game where players compete to gather resources and complete projects. What I think is really cool, though, is the mechanic that I am designing to include gossip that can negatively or positively affect other players (the gossip can be traced back to the person who started it) and a mechanic involving a boss and a manager, both of which are controlled by the players and which will impede work. Basically, the bosses are meant to be used to screw over other players by preventing them from working.

My hope is that one day there will be a board game that is set in the world of Eos, but I currently have no plans to start that project. Perhaps when the novels are complete....
